Rev. Raymond L. Roderick, 98, of Frederick, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, in Frederick. He was the husband of Anna Mary Kefauver Roderick; they were married July 30, 1938.

Rev. Roderick was born on a farm in Urbana on August 13, 1910. He was the youngest of eight children of the late William McCellan and Clara Virginia Mercer Roderick. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Rev. Roderick was called to the ministry in 1933. After leaving the family farm, he entered Williamsport-Dickinson Seminary, a college preparatory school, to prepare for his calling. He graduated in 1936 and entered Western Maryland College, from which he graduated in 1940. His theological training was completed at Wesley Theological Seminary in 1943. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree by Western Maryland College in 1963.

Rev. Roderick's ministry included eight circuits or United Methodist churches within Maryland and the District of Columbia from 1939 until his retirement in 1976. He was also a district superintendent for six years. Upon retirement from the active ministry, he served as chaplain of the Reeders Memorial Nursing Home for 12 years.

Rev. Roderick and his wife, Anna Mary, moved to Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover, Pa., in 1992. When Homewood at Crumland Farms opened in 2000, they were among the first residents.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Marianne C. Roderick of Wilmette, Ill., and Nancy C. Roderick Newton of Middletown; two grandchildren, Lera Newton Straits and husband, Jeffrey, of Middletown; and Roderick C. Newton and wife, Chase, of Mercersburg, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Mausoleum Chapel of the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Interment will be private. The Rev. Christopher M. Bishop will officiate.
